We let the interpretation to the Governing Body, and I willfully submit myself to their direction. If the society published a memo tomorrow that the scripture say we should dress in pink polka dots, and do handstands in intersections for Jehovah, the by golly, I’d be shopping for a new outfit and practicing my gymnastics.

Frustrated with JW Bible study!

i am new 2 this forum.. i have been meeting up with 2 jw ladies on a weekly basis.

it has all been "polite".

today we covered a bit of the trinity.. i had read rhodes book on reasoning from the scriptures with jw's, but i found almost all my arguments that i used, in terms of every bible verse we went through (or i attempted to go through with them) went pear shape!

(it's funny, another poster was featuring the trinity and JWs and i though of sword fights)

You thrust, they lunge, you dodge, they stab, your swords clash, clash, clash... mental picture of swash buckling swordsmen!

Each has favorite moves and scriptures to counter the others favorite moves and scriptures. They refer to the bible as a sword.

you will get nowhere, nor will they if you are strong enough. Eventually they hope you will 'tire out' first and they will be the victor.

They have a few dirty tricks and you need to find some too. The best ones are provable facts that cannot be denied by rational people. You will find plenty here, but beware! They are so blinkered that even those facts will bounce off most like a rubber stick.

My feeling is that it may be of little benefit to cross scripture with scripture. It's like an old sword fight. Tit for tat. There will always be another proof offered to counter anything you use to counter prove and so on. Additionally, you will actually be fighting the one who is studying with him.

I will not be debating any doctrine with my kids (13 and 16) as i prepare to get them out. I will not try to turn them against God or the bible even though i have no religious interest at all, Nor to direct them to another faith.

My focus will only be on showing facts, documented not heresay, that the WBTS can not possibly be the organization that God is using.

May i ask how old your son is 'oldflame'?

Another marriage bites the dust thanks to the WT

i've known about this couple for a long time and attended their bible studies on occasions.

susan, the wife, has been having a study with the witnesses on and off for 16 years, (yeah i know, one of very useful wet day pioneer calls where we all bundle round sue's house for coffee and still count the time) the sister whose been studying with them was a sooper -uber pioneer sister with a hard-line and total society view on everything.

sue's husband keith has always been polite and interested in what his wife was learning but he loved his beer, fags and christmas too much to take it seriously.. finally a few months ago susan caves in to the pressure from uber-sister christine and wants to get baptized.

My parents split up when i was 10 (37 years ago). Mum said it was because dad was a 'womanizer'. I did not see dad for the next 22 years, developed a hate of him. Got back intouch with him when i was 32 and having my own marriage troubles. As i have been an apologist for the Jw till two months ago i share this recent phone call to him:

I told him partway through a chat that i was discovering all sorts of terrible stuff about witnesses...that i was finally taking a real look at them. He became quite upset, My dad cries when he and i talk about some things from way back then, and he started to this time. I asked if he wanted me to not talk about he and mums breakup... he said NO. Even though it hurts him, i am to talk about it.

When i go to visit him interstate in the next couple of months i think there is going to be some very sad truths come out...

For 37 years i have wanted to beleive that the JW had nothing to do with it, but i am not so sure anymore.

I feel for the father, but esp for the children caught in the middle.

I have to agree with Robdar...

If love is a struggle, you are with the wrong person. It's as simple as that.

As harsh as it sounds, i broke off a basically fine relationship because it was a struggle. I did not want to spend years trying to change or adapt to each other. I chose to end it and keep seeking the one that did not require changes or adjustments by either of us.

All i sought post JW was to find somebody that would like me for who i had become. To find a non judgemental person, because i was sick of being judged. It took a few casual, and 3 longer term relationships to find the woman i married.

The biggest tip i can add is to seek to be treated the way you treat them and vice versa. And be patient, hell, my dad told me it took till his 60s to find 'the one!'

Good luck, and if you do feel it may be you behaving badly... seek counseling

obviously, most of us know that flipper always respond to everybody's posts everytime he starts a topic, i think he is the only one on this board that will respond to everyone in his own threads.

i would think it would be too much work for me or anyone here on this board to respond to everyone.

is that a good thing or bad thing?

Below is a little facebook chat i had over rutherfords millions now living will never die.. The guy stated that millions now living will never die. It shows the thinking or lack thereof, that they have, Even if it was not true (rutherfords prediction) it kept us safe and will be true one day so thats ok. With reason like that how can we get anywhere with them on generation?

ME: But i see you are talking about millions now, whereas Rutherford was refering to millions alive 90 years ago!

HIM: I know some apostates try to use this against the Society. Brother Rutherford obviously believed it would come in his lifetime, as has true followers of Christ throughout the ages. That feeling will persist until it is true and it keeps us save in Jehovah's organization. Still the idea that millions will survive Armageddon is a valid one. oz
